This place I call French Broad Hollow is about a quarter mile from the ancient French Broad River, near Alexander, NC. When I walk down to the highway by river (which is almost daily), it’s a change in elevation of approximately 275 feet. The walk down isn’t so bad, but the walk back up takes some getting used to!

The trip to the river is part of my regular ramble around the nearby hills and hollows, and I am never quite sure what I may encounter. (Fortunately, I have yet to see a bear while walking, although several have passed through the Hollow.) This blog is an account of the things I encounter on my walks and also the happenings in the Hollow.
